About J.R. Burns

My workbench is located in the heart of Homewood, Alabama.  I spend my days building, repairing, and restoring new and vintage stringed instruments for dealers, collectors, and professional and novice musicians. I have a committed interest and enthusiasm for lutherie and have clients throughout the South.

In 2001, I started Burns Stringed Instrument Repair.  I have gained a wealth of knowledge working with Robert E. Tedrow, a world renown concertina builder and repairman.  We now share a workshop and have been working together for the last 15 years.

The storefront Homewood Musical Instrument Company that was started in the early 1980s was founded by Mr. Tedrow.  Bob started this company with his interest in music and lutherie, and together we have become a fixture in our local community.

Besides our workshop, we have a staff of knowledgable musicians and well-seasoned violin, guitar, banjo and ukulele teachers.  Anyone is welcome to come visit our retail section of the shop, where we deal in new and vintage instruments.
